The Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in German develops students' ability to communicate confidently in German across listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Overview

Studying German at IGCSE level develops students' ability to communicate effectively in German across all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students also develop an understanding of German-speaking cultures and the confidence to use the language in real-world contexts.

What Students Study

Our German GCSE online course follows the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE specification. Live lessons are held in small groups with experienced teachers, combining structured grammar instruction with real-world conversation practice. Students develop the ability to communicate confidently in German and gain an appreciation of German-speaking cultures.

Course Details

Assessment

  • Assessment is split equally across four papers, each worth 25% of the final grade
  • Paper 1: Listening and Understanding
  • Paper 2: Speaking โ€” conducted in April or May
  • Paper 3: Reading and Understanding
  • Paper 4: Writing
  • All written papers are sat in May or June at an approved Pearson Edexcel examination centre

Course Duration

The International GCSE German course runs over two academic years (Years 10 and 11). Students have continuous access to live online lessons, one-to-one subject support and learning resources throughout the programme.

Course Outcome

Students who successfully complete all required examinations receive the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE qualification in German. This enables progression to International A Level and other post-16 qualifications.

Entry Requirements

  • No prior knowledge of German is required to begin this course
  • Two years of previous school reports are required
  • Students whose English is not their first language must provide a language certificate showing a minimum B2 level in all components, or sit an internal English assessment
