Computer Requirements for Online Learning
Students attend live lessons, interact with classmates and access learning platforms throughout the school week. Every student needs a reliable laptop or desktop that meets the specifications below.
Suggested device configuration
For the best learning experience, a device that meets or exceeds the following is recommended.

What you need for live lessons
A laptop or desktop computer is the right choice for full-time online learning. Tablets and phones can be useful for occasional access, such as scanning work or checking messages, but device restrictions mean they are not a reliable primary option.
Students also need:
- A working camera for live lessons
- A headset with a built-in microphone
Internet connection
A stable connection makes a real difference to the learning experience. Where possible, students should work in a quiet space close to the Wi-Fi router, or use a wired connection for added reliability.
If lessons regularly freeze, drop out or have poor audio quality, it is worth checking broadband speed, router position and device performance.

Software and equipment
A printer is useful but not essential. Some subjects may occasionally require printed materials or handwritten work to be uploaded - this can be done using a scanner or mobile scanning app, as long as the image is clear and readable. Some subjects may require additional tools or software. Families will be informed if this applies.
Students should have the following ready before lessons begin:
- An up-to-date browser, with Google Chrome recommended
- A PDF reader
- A document editor such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs or equivalent
- Presentation software such as PowerPoint, Google Slides or equivalent
- A way to scan or photograph handwritten work when needed
A quick checklist before lessons begin
Before a student's first lesson, it is worth taking a few minutes to check everything is in order. Running through this checklist can help avoid any disruption on their first day.
- The device starts up quickly and runs reliably
- The camera and microphone are working
- The internet connection is stable
- The student can access their school email and learning platforms
- The student has a quiet space to study
- The student can type, save and upload files without difficulty
