British education, delivered live from Oxford
We are a fully online British school based in Oxford. Students follow a timetabled day of live lessons with qualified teachers, progressing through the British curriculum from primary level through to A Levels. Portugal is home to a large and growing British and international community, and we regularly support families who want a UK academic pathway while living there.
Why families in Portugal choose Oxford Online School

A UK school day, run from home in Portugal
Students join scheduled live lessons during the UK school week, each led by a subject specialist. The timetable gives them the same routine and pace as a traditional classroom, with the chance to take part, ask questions and get direct guidance in every lesson. From Year 10, lesson recordings are also available to support revision.
Why Portugal makes scheduling straightforward
Portugal follows Western European Time, which lines up exactly with the UK throughout the year, including the same seasonal clock changes. This means the Oxford Online School timetable runs at the same local time for families in Portugal as it does in the UK, with no adjustment needed. Download the time zone guide for full details of the weekly schedule.

Designed for British and international families in Portugal
Oxford Online School works well for British expatriate families in Portugal who want to continue the UK curriculum, international families preparing for GCSEs, A Levels or UK university entry, and families who move between countries and want their child's education to remain consistent. Given the specific requirements around home education in Portugal, our admissions team can help you think through the right approach for your circumstances.
A structured programme for every year group
Oxford Online School offers full-time study from Year 4 through to Year 13. Whether your child is at primary level, working towards GCSEs or preparing for A Levels, there is a structured programme to suit their stage.
The legal position in Portugal
Portugal recognises home education under Ensino Doméstico, most recently regulated by Decreto-Lei n.º 70/2021, but the framework is more involved than in many other European countries. The adult responsible for a child's education generally needs a recognised degree, the child must be registered with a supervising public school, and progress is checked through annual assessment. Some families in Portugal instead use a recognised foreign school as their child's full-time education, which sits outside the domestic Ensino Doméstico rules. Given the detail involved, we strongly recommend taking local legal advice on your specific situation before enrolling, and our admissions team is happy to talk through how Oxford Online School could fit.
