Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
The EPQ is a standalone qualification that develops the independent research and writing skills universities look for, completed entirely online alongside your other studies.

The EPQ allows students to explore a subject in depth, build independent research skills and complete a substantial final project. It is a core part of our Sixth Form programme and can be taken as a standalone qualification or alongside other subjects, with small live classes, clear structure and ongoing teacher support. Who does an EPQ benefit?
The EPQ is a compulsory programme for all full-time A Level students at Oxford Online School. It is also open to students who wish to enrol solely for the EPQ, making it ideal for:
- University-bound students who want to strengthen their personal statement and stand out in applications.
- Learners eager to explore niche areas of interest.
- Students preparing for research-intensive disciplines, including medicine, law, politics, or engineering.
- External A Level students who wish to benefit from expert EPQ guidance and assessment support.
What makes an EPQ different to an A Level or BTEC?
Unlike A Levels or BTECs, the EPQ gives students more control. They choose their topic, shape their project and manage it from start to finish, building skills in independent research, time management and problem-solving.

What to expect from the EPQ assessment
The EPQ is assessed on both the process and the final outcome. Examiners look at the skills you develop throughout, not just what you produce at the end. You will be assessed across four areas.
